Rep The Culture | The Rhythm Revolution
New Jersey, United States
New Jersey-Native Tenaja “Kia” David (p/k/a “DJ LoKi”) is a creative, educator and cultural leader whose talents span music, movement and the visual arts. In 2021, she spawned a viral global dance challenge embraced by celebrities and internet personalities across major social platforms with the release of “Jersey Anniversary” — a mix which encapsulates her signature take on club music, interpolating melodies and vocals from legendary R&B group Tony! Toni! Tone!’s “Anniversary” and infamous Louisiana rapper Hurricane Chris’ “A Bay Bay” alongside club breaks from anthems by veteran club pioneers DJ Big O and DJ Sliink. The breakthrough moment was a manifestation of Tenaja’s commitment to honing her artistry and stewarding community during the preceding years, deeply rooting in NJ’s dance scene as a performer, competitor, instructor and leader of Rep the Culture — a collective & organization she founded with the mission of establishing a hub to cultivate a healthier and more vibrant NJ Club culture.
As a movement artist, Tenaja is widely recognized as one of NJ Club culture’s premier dancers with credits including lead choreographer for the music video to Cookie Kawaii’s 2020 viral club hit “Vibe” as well as performing in Coi Leray’s “Players” music video. She has also graced the stages of some of the world’s biggest entertainment platforms, performing at international Hip-Hop festival Rolling Loud, Red Bull’s Sound Clash, The Millenium Tour and MONSTER’s dance tour as well as major local community events such as the NJ Juneteenth festival.
Tenaja holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Kean University and attributes her skills as an educator to her passion for seeking to understand the human mind and ‘mind-body connection’ as well as possessing a genuine regard for the health and welfare of all. She has served as a youth educator helping students in her hometown and at local studios since the 2010s. Additionally, as a highly regarded, in-demand instructor for dance professionals and amateur enthusiasts alike, she has facilitated workshops in collaboration with the Hip-Hop intensive 36 Chambaz of Stylz, an event which attracts dancers from across the globe to train in NYC at the renowned Peridance contemporary dance school.
Above all, Tenaja strives to leave a legacy as an innovative artist and compassionate community leader who championed the power of artistic expression as a vehicle for finding happiness and personal freedom.
