Aukje Dekker is a visual artist and founder/director of Sexyland World; one of the only collaborative cultural (night) clubs in Amsterdam where failure and experiment are part of the DNA.
Aukje Dekker can be safely called the Dutch crown bearer of incidental collaboration. There are dozens of collaborations within her oeuvre: with artists, master forgers, buyers, galleries, children, nightclubs, in secret or with a complete audience, even her living situation is one big cooperation. In her practice, artistic collaboration is both subject and form. She does not shy away from the discomfort in this. Where do you sacrifice autonomy? Who has the power? When does it get out of balance? What role does money play? And ego?
Aukje Dekker studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, the Sandberg Institute and Central St. Martins College, London. Her work has been exhibited in various national and international galleries, museums and fairs. In 2022 and 2023 she made the youth television series Moonriders for the VPRO.
