Roman Fleischmann is a German-Croatian artist, musician, and researcher based in Vienna. He began his musical journey with various band projects as a drummer and bassist before moving to Vienna in 2014. There he soon became an active member of the subcultural scene through numerous collectives and music projects, while studying psychology at the University of Vienna and transdisciplinary arts at the University of Applied Arts.
Now, Fleischmann’s work revolves around music and sound(-art). He is a core member of Room69, an artist collective focused on installations and immersive environments exhibiting internationally, and a co-founder of fast+nice, which has organized raves, parties, and demonstrations since 2016. Current music projects include Meta Human Gabber Orchestra, Elfriede Blut, and Balencijugo, spanning songwriting, live performances, production and DJ sets. He works from his studio at Kollektiv Kaorle, a self-organized community and event space in Ottakring. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, researching sound perception through computational cognitive neuroscience.
As an artist, booker and organizer Roman experienced the financial reality of working and self-exploiting in Viennas free subcultural scene extensively and first-hand, often juggling subcultural work with several jobs in parallel.
