Bert Hauspie is affiliated as a researcher within the research centre Substance Use and Psychosocial Risk Behaviours (SUPRB) at HOGENT – situated in Ghent, Belgium. From 2011 until 2019 he was involved as a field worker for two different peer support- and harm reduction projects, including Safe 'n Sound. The projects are focused on safer nightlife, with a primary focus on substance use. Gradually he moved towards the academic field where he is mainly doing research on the topic of substance use, with a special dedication to prevention, harm reduction and the nightlife setting.
