Welcome to the Club: The Life and Lessons of a Black Woman DJ
Thu, 14.11.
16:00–16:15
There is a disconnect on the dancefloor where club-goers and promoters are often far removed from the stories of the Black, Brown and queer communities foundational to today’s nightlife culture and club dance styles. Manchester legend and one of the first women DJs of the Haçienda, DJ Paulette offers her perspective on the core values of peace, love, unity and respect (PLUR), in relation to the exclusion, misogyny, racism and classism prevalent on the dancefloor.
With a short reading from her new book, “Welcome to the Club: The Life and Lessons of a Black Woman DJ” followed by a brief question and answer period, we seek to revitalise our connections with each other and club history.
