Pinoy Boomshrine Friday
Fri, 15.11.
13:00–18:00
The work Pinoy Boomshrine was created as a commissioned piece for the 2022 Donaufestival under the theme "Stealing the Stolen", which explored reflections of art and culture as productive forces.
Pinoy Boomshrine is an interactive sculpture for social gatherings and celebrations, taking the concept of “social sculpture” almost literally: here, the piece is conceived as a unifying element between people of different backgrounds.
In the foyer of the Donaufestival, Boomshrine set the tone for incoming visitors by inviting people—who didn’t yet know each other—to sing together.
The sculpture itself, Boomshrine, is a replica of a Filipino karaoke machine (known locally as "Videoke") that captivates with its bold and unmistakable design language. The original machine was photographed near Mindanao, aiming to expand the concept of sculpture by incorporating the participatory principle of karaoke: imitation driven by participation and fascination. True to the festival’s theme, the sculpture becomes an interactive bridge at various gatherings—inviting people to transcend differences by interpreting songs together.
